How to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home

homemade cold brew in a tall glass over iceCold brew is easy and inexpensive to make. No need for special equipment or even a coffee machine. All you need do is mix the coffee grounds with water and steep in the fridge overnight. It’s that easy!

For best results I recommend using coarsely ground coffee beans.  If you don’t have a coffee grinder, your coffee shop can grind the beans for you. I wouldn’t worry about it too much if you’re itching to get started and want your brew for the morning, use whatever ground coffee you have on hand. I have used regular ground coffee and it still tasted delicious. Just make sure to double strain it for best results.

Ingredients:

1 cup (128 g) coarsely ground coffee beans
4 cups (1-litre) of water
Glass jar large enough to hold the water and coffee grounds.

mason jar with coffee ready to brew

Directions:

Place coffee grinds in a glass jar that is large enough to hold at least 5 cups of water. I like to use a mason jar that has a wide mouth opening. It makes it easier to add the coffee.

Add water. Give it a good stir. Cover and place in the fridge and steep for 12-18 hours.

Strain using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth-lined sieve pour into a clean sealable jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

The result is a smooth delicious cold brew. This cold brew is highly concentrated and works great with all your cold coffee recipes.
