Grand Marnier has been enjoyed for over six generations. In 1880, Louis-Alexandre Marnier had the eccentric idea to create something avant-garde — a “Grand” liqueur combining refined French cognac with a rare variety of bitter orange from the Caribbean. Originally named Curaçao Marnier. The name was later changed when Louis-Alexandre’s friend and fellow innovator César Ritz, the famous founder of the Ritz Hotel, came up with the name ‘Grand Marnier,’ “A Grand Name for a ‘Grand Liqueur!”
